The Gantry Machining Center Series is the pinnacle of large-format, high-rigidity CNC machining solutions. Designed to meet the most demanding heavy-duty and high-precision manufacturing needs, this series features a fixed double-column gantry structure with a moving crossbeam or moving table configuration—making it ideal for processing large-scale molds, aerospace components, structural frames, and complex heavy parts.
With robust mechanical architecture, advanced control systems, and flexible multi-axis options, this machining center guarantees excellent dimensional accuracy, machining repeatability, and operational efficiency—even when handling massive or ultra-long workpieces. As a professional manufacturer of gantry machining centers, we provide high-rigidity, high-precision CNC machine tool solutions for efficient processing of large and heavy workpieces. Our gantry machining centers are designed to ensure excellent stability and precision to meet your needs for large-scale complex parts processing.
Gantry Machining Center Advantages:
Heavy-Duty Gantry Frame (Fixed Column Design): The rigid, symmetrical double-column structure ensures minimal thermal deformation and vibration during long cycle times and heavy cutting. Ideal for large or high-tolerance components.
Wide Machining Envelope: Available in customizable configurations with X-axis travel from 2,000 mm to over 10,000 mm, and Y-axis spans supporting oversized components or multi-piece processing.
High-Performance Spindle System: Supports both high-torque (for roughing and heavy milling) and high-speed (for finishing) spindles, including gear-driven, belt-driven, or electro-spindle options, with RPM ranges up to 24,000.
Crossbeam or Table Movement Options: Flexibility between moving table or moving beam configurations to suit different workshop layouts and application needs.
Multi-Axis Head Configurations (Optional): Offers A/C-axis or U/V-axis head attachments, including automatic head changers or 5-axis simultaneous machining, for complex surface profiling.
Integrated Tool Magazine & Auto Tool Changer (ATC): High-capacity magazines (up to 120 tools) with fast, precise ATC systems reduce non-cutting time and enable diverse operations in one setup.
Smart Control & Automation:
Compatible with leading CNC controllers: Siemens, FANUC, Heidenhain, Mitsubishi, with real-time compensation, dynamic stability control, and 3D contouring.
Full automation options including:
·Probing systems (tool and workpiece)
·Automatic chip conveyors and coolant systems
·Robotic pallet changers or loading arms
·IoT/Industry 4.0-ready monitoring systems
Gantry Machining Center Applications:
Large-scale mold & die making (automotive, injection molds, stamping dies)
Aerospace frames, bulkheads, and wing components
Rail transit components & aluminum extrusions
Precision steel or cast iron mechanical bases
Energy sector: wind power hubs, nuclear components, turbines
Heavy industry: shipbuilding, engineering machinery, military-grade parts
How to Choose a Gantry Machining Center
The right gantry machine should be selected according to the actual workpiece rather than simply choosing the largest available machine.
1. Start with Workpiece Length, Width and Height
First confirm the maximum dimensions of the part after fixturing.
The machine travel should leave sufficient clearance for:
● Tool approach
● Fixture installation
● Edge machining
● Tool changing
● Rotary or angle-head movement if required
For example, a 3000 mm long workpiece normally requires more than exactly 3000 mm of usable X-axis travel.
2. Check Gantry Width and Y-Axis Travel
For wide molds, plates and structural parts, Y-axis capacity and distance between the columns are critical.
The workpiece, fixture and required tool access must all fit safely inside the gantry.
3. Select Z-Axis Travel by Part Height
Higher workpieces, deep cavities and long tools require additional Z-axis travel.
Do not select Z travel based only on the workpiece height. Consider:
Workpiece height + fixture height + tool length + machining clearance.
4. Match the Spindle to the Material
The spindle should match the dominant machining material and process.
| Machining Requirement | Recommended Focus |
|---|
| Steel and cast iron | High torque, strong rigidity |
| Large mold roughing | BT50, high torque |
| Aluminum parts | Higher spindle speed |
| Large surface finishing | Speed and thermal stability |
| Heavy material removal | Torque and machine rigidity |
| Complex contour finishing | Higher speed and multi-axis capability |
5. Choose 3-Axis, Multi-Face or 5-Axis
A 3-axis gantry machining center is normally sufficient for large plates, machine bases, mold bases and parts primarily machined from the top.
Choose multi-face or 5-axis capability when the workpiece requires:
● Side machining
● Angled holes
● Complex contours
● Multiple faces in one setup
● Reduced repositioning
Gantry Machining Center Selection Guide
| Workpiece / Requirement | Recommended Configuration |
| Large plates and fixture plates | 3-axis gantry machining center |
| Mold bases and large molds | High-rigidity double column machining center |
| Steel / cast-iron heavy parts | BT50 high-torque configuration |
| Large aluminum structures | High-speed gantry machining center |
| Tall components or deep cavities | Increased Z-axis travel |
| Multi-side components | Multi-face machining configuration |
| Complex aerospace surfaces | 5-axis gantry machining configuration |
| Extra-long components | Extended X-axis gantry machine |
How to Maintain a Gantry Machining Center
External cleaning and maintenance
Keep both the interior and exterior surfaces of the machine clean. When switching products, clean the worktable as needed and remove any burrs promptly.
Spindle and tool magazine care
Maintain cleanliness of the spindle and tool magazine. Inspect the tool magazine before startup, and allow the spindle to run at low speed for about 10 minutes before operation.
Tool storage and fasteners
Keep handles and tool sleeves properly arranged to prevent rust. Regularly check screws and fasteners to ensure they are secure and not loose.
Computer system maintenance
Keep the control computer clean and dust-free. Regularly delete unnecessary files and organize folders for smooth operation.
Electrical control cabinet
Ensure the electrical control box remains clean, dry, and free of dust accumulation.
Lubrication system
Check the oil level in the lubrication tank regularly. Ensure the lubrication system operates efficiently, safely, and reliably.
Coolant system
Inspect the coolant system regularly to prevent leakage and blockages.
Air system maintenance
Keep air ducts and air guns unobstructed, and ensure there are no air leaks.
Tool box and worktable management
Keep the tool box and worktable clean inside and out. Arrange tools neatly and apply rust protection to workpieces when necessary.
